Beerly Tasting: M-Co
Nov 18, 2006
Author: Neil Miller

Last night I conducted a thoroughly enjoyable beer tasting at M-Co for 25 or so powerful people (just a little electricity joke there).

The session was designed as an introduction to craft beer but was made exceptional by the quality of the questions and comments from the participants.

It was one of the most interactive sessions I have ever run – I loved it.

The menu was top-notch:

Invercargill Biman
Limburg Czechmate
Epic
Emerson’s APA
Tuatara Porter
Emerson’s Old 95
Chimay White

The voting could not have been closer. While there was a clear winner, four beers then tied on equal votes which required a run-off to determine the places. The final results were:

3rd Invercargill Biman – how well does this beer do in popular votes?
2nd Limburg Czechmate – a good result at the end of an eventful week for Limburg
1st Chimay White – always quality.

I have ever confidence there were no leftovers on the table by the end of the night. This group seemed to know how to “bayonet the wounded!”

Cheers

Neil

“Beer drinkers have been duped by mass marketing into the belief that it makes sense to drink only one brand of beer. In truth, brand loyalty in beer makes no more sense than 'vegetable loyalty' in food. Can you imagine it? "No thanks, I'll pass on the mashed potatoes, carrots, bread and roast beef. Me, I'm strictly a broccoli man.""
